The Ankur group is the official Bengali translation team for both the KDE and GNOME desktops. However, due to the fact that GNOME (via pango) supported Bengali long before KDE (through Qt), work for GNOME translation started a while ago. For more information about our GNOME project, see here.

That said, KDE translation is also now officially underway, and is available (albeit with a quite low coverage) starting from KDE 3.2.1.

Translation Status

The current status of KDE translation can be found at the KDE internationalization site. We are currently translating the GUI for KDE 3.3 and haven't started on the documentation yet. The percentage of translated GUI messages along with the translated PO files can be found here. Look into the package directories for the individual PO files. This page is updated daily.

Using the translated GUI

The whole point of the tranlations, of course, is for people to use it. This page has more information regarding how to install and use the Bengali translation for KDE.

Contributing translations

Translating KDE is not a trivial project! We can use all the help possible. If you are interested in joining the translation team, this page has more information for you.

Mailing List

KDE translation is discussed in this mailling list.

Volunteering for Ankur

Ankur is often involved in development based on cutting edge technology. Ankur developers were the first to come with a Bangla Open Type font, and the Ankur Bangla Live CD is often considered to be the best among the localised Live CD distributions out there. If you want to be a member of the Ankur family, please do get in touch with us at core at bengalinux org. For more information on volunteering refer to the Ankur Developers' Guide .
